DETECTIVES have launched an witness appeal after a pensioner was robbed outside a bank in Bromborough.

At around 1.20pm, on Tuesday, a 77-year-old woman was withdrawing money from a cash machine on Bromborough Village Road when she was approached by two men.

After a short struggle they made off with her cash.

She managed to make her way inside the bank where staff raised the alarm.

Police say the victim was uninjured but left distressed by her ordeal.

The muggers are aged their mid-20s to early 30s and of Eastern European origin.

Both were of slim build with dark hair and one wore a leather jacket and had his hair in a top knot.

Detective Inspector Paul Parry said: "This must have been very frightening for the victim and I'm sure the local community would agree that these offenders need to be identified and brought to justice.

"Following the incident the victim was looked after by staff at the HSBC branch, who contacted police.

"I'd like to thank them for the care and attention they paid this lady.

"I'd ask anyone who was in the area at the time who may have seen two men acting suspiciously to get in contact with Wirral CID."

Merseyside Police later released the CCTV stills of two men who may be able to assist with the investigation.
