BIRKENHEAD MP Frank Field joins the prophets of doom in predicting failure for Jeremy Corbyn's Labour Party in the 2020 general election.

This view is shared by those who are unwilling to accept that millions of voters are tired of the politics of the last 30 years or so, which has been dominated by career politicians, spin and the main parties offering no real differences between them, to the electorate.

The result has been a disaffection with politics across the country and low turn outs come election time.

At the last election, nearly a third of those eligible simply did not bother to vote.

The recent Labour leadership contest bucked that trend because a candidate for high office, Jeremy Corbyn, has inspired huge support across the whole country, from people of all ages and backgrounds, to become interested again.

The reason can be stated in one word: Hope.

Corbyn and his supporters want to see Labour offering hope to ordinary people by challenging the austerity measures of this Tory government that continue to hurt the most vulnerable.

Labour should be increasing taxes on the rich and clamping down on tax avoidance by the wealthy and powerful, rather than simply accepting more cuts to public spending.

On a whole range of issues, including education, nuclear weapons, the NHS, housing, renationalisation of energy suppliers and railways, Corbyn has tapped into the strong support out there for a real Labour alternative to this Tory government.

As a Labour MP, Frank Field should respect the outcome of the leadership election, respect what Corbyn has achieved thus far and, in his words "seize the day" and give full support to the new agenda for change.
