A TEAM of young Wirral volunteers has transformed a neglected piece of open space into a community garden.
The group, 'Red Hot Chilli Yes'' was one of 11 that took part in the National Citizen Service programme.
As part of their 'social action’ stage of the programme, the group chose to help out a local charity, HYPE, with their ‘Little T Room’ community youth project space in the centre of Birkenhead.
After spending 30 hours planning the project, the group spent the same amount of time delivering it.
Cllr Chris Meaden, Wirral Council Cabinet member for Leisure, Culture and Sport, said: "They have worked extremely hard and created a fantastic outdoor space for the community group who use the centre.
"The people at HYPE and the young people who have been attending the youth club are made up with the transformation of the garden."
The National Citizen Service is a national programme delivered locally through Wirral Council’s Sports Development Unit.
Young people taking part in the programme have to complete six stages, including an ‘away residential’ featuring outdoor adventures like gorge walking, canoeing and rock climbing and later meeting local businesses within their own communities.
