A YOUTH Hub has been awarded Charter Mark status for its work to promote equality in Wallasey.

Wallasey Youth Hub received the Navajo Charter Mark in recognition of its work to support lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and intersex young people.

It applied for funding from Wallasey Constituency Committee and received £2,005, which will be used to buy marketing and training materials for the young people's group.

They also bought a number of Saveaway travel tickets to encourage young people to travel to the youth hub.

Cllr Rob Gregson, chair of Wallasey constituency committee, said: "This is exactly the sort of project that the constituency committees were set up to support, to help tackle key priorities across communities.

"Young people in Wirral who face discrimination need somewhere they can go where they feel supported and where they are able to talk about their situation, should they choose to do so.

"I would like to congratulate the whole team on their successful application for Navajo Charter Mark status."

Since it was set up in October 2013, Wallasey constituency committee has awarded more than £200,000 to projects which aim to tackle health problems and other inequalities, raising aspirations of young people and improving community cohesion.
