TRANMERE Rovers' striker Rory Donnelly has been named Sky Bet League 2 Player of the Month for January.

His three goals in as many starts took Rovers away from the relegation zone with wins over Accrington Stanley and Exeter City last month.

Described as calm in front of goal and with quick feet, he has made the loan transition from Swansea look easy.

Tranmere manager Micky Adams said: “I’d like to congratulate Rory on winning the award, it’s not a bad start in your first month in league football!

"I’m sure Rory would be the first to pay tribute to his team-mates and the role they all played in helping him win the award.

"It's a credit to the hard work being done by everyone at the club that one of our players has picked up the trophy."

Sky Sports' Football League pundit Don Goodman said: "After a disappointing loan move to Coventry last season, Donnelly has taken full advantage of his move to Tranmere, bagging three goals in three starts in January.

“His goalscoring record in Northern Ireland was fantastic and it looks like with confidence restored, he may be starting to replicate that form in Sky Bet League 2."

In the Sky Bet Championship, Lee Tomlin of Middlesbrough was named Player of the Month.

The Sky Bet League 1 Player of the Month Award went to Dele Alli midfielder MK Dons.

The judging panel for the Sky Bet Player of the Month comprises Sky Sports Football League expert Don Goodman; Football League Head of Communications John Nagle; League Managers Association Director Olaf Dixon and Sky Bet Football Trading Manager Paul Lowery.
