A forum representing Wirral’s clubs and sports bodies is seeking new members for 2015.

Wirral Sports Forum is a voluntary group of representatives from different clubs and sports that meets quarterly to discuss opportunities and concerns.

Any sports club in Wirral is eligible to join, and there are no membership fees to pay.

Sue Freeman, chairwoman of the forum, said: “We already have a wide range of sports represented in our membership, but we know that there are many more clubs in Wirral who could benefit from knowing about funding opportunities and being involved in the collaborative events organised by the forum.

“The importance of enjoying active participation in sport in 2015 is something that is especially relevant to the younger members of the community and we aim to encourage and support clubs and members from every sector.”

Councillor Chris Meaden, cabinet member for leisure and sport, said: “Wirral Sports Forum offers a unique resource for sports clubs in the borough to meet and discuss common issues, and to support each other in areas like funding and participation.

"It fulfills a valuable role in our communities and hopefully we can encourage more clubs and sports groups to get involved.”

The highlight of the forum's calendar is the annual sports awards presentation dinner, where the achievements of Wirral’s dedicated sports people are recognised and celebrated.

Awards are given out in a range of categories including Volunteer of the Year, Lifetime Achiever and Coach and Club of the Year.
