A FORMER Wirral student is returning to Merseyside this month as part of his latest drama success.

Wallsey-born Tom Saunders is director of Tweet Tweet, a new play showing at the Everyman Threate as part of a Northwest tour.

It is also being presented by Wirral Youth Theatre in a special performance at Birkenhead Priory on Friday February 20.

Tom studied A -level drama and performance studies at St Mary's Catholic College before leaving sixth form in 2008.

Now aged 26, he is senior youth theatre director at Birmingham Repertory Theatre, after graduating with a drama degree from Hull University and working for the Hull Truck Theatre Company.

Tom has returned in the last couple of years to St Mary's to deliver master classes to groups of students.

Head of St Mary's arts faculty, Alison Keen, said: 'We are extremely proud of Lewis and Tom, who are both very talented people and who always worked really hard during their time at St Mary's.

'In a way, it's not surprising that they have achieved so much, since all their work for Drama and Performance Studies was exceptional.

'We wish them well in their future projects'.

Tweet Tweet, which deals with issues around modern social media, is written by Charlene James and the cast features young people from Birmingham Repertory Theatre’s Young REP groups.

It is being produced as part of a Young Theatre Makers partnership between The REP, The New Wolsey Theatre, Ipswich, and Liverpool Everyman and Playhouse to create new productions for young people by young people.

Tweet Tweet is on at Liverpool's Everyman Theatre on Saturday, February 21. For tickets call the Box Office on 0151 709 4776
