WORK is now underway to capitalise on Wirral's most valuable assets after a survey revealed Wirral's 'X' factors are its beautiful coast and countryside.
The survey - commissioned by Wirral Council and carried out by Ipsos Mori - revealed that: The overwhelming majority of people enjoy their visit so much, they return again and again Most come to Wirral for a day trip, visiting coast and countryside areas Beautiful scenery and quality food are the most important motivating factors for a visit to Wirral, with 'getting away from it all' and outdoor activities close runners-up The survey was carried out as part of the development of Wirral's marketing and tourism strategy, and its findings will inform plans to increase numbers of visitors to the borough and support local tourism businesses.
Said Emma Degg, head of tourism and marketing at Wirral Council: "We're delighted this research has shown that people already enjoy visiting Wirral so much they like to return.
"The importance of tourism spend was demonstrated last year when visitors to The Open generated a huge amount of extra business for businesses and traders. That kind of event isn't the norm, but does highlight the contribution visitors can make to local economies.
"Tourism is a notoriously fickle market, and research such as this helps us understand market developments and develop key themes so that we can continue to attract more and more visitors.
"We are now working hard to make the most of the coast and countryside areas that people like so much, including closer links with our neighbours such as Liverpool and Chester. There is much to be gained from making the most of each other's best assets."
A report on the Mori visitor survey goes to Wirral's Cabinet this Wednesday.
