A BIRKENHEAD man has been arrested after shots were fired in the town on Tuesday.
Police were called to Argyle Street South at around 10.30am after shots were fired during a targeted attack.
Officers found the victim, who is in his 20s, with injuries to his head.
Following a search of the area, a number of shell casings were recovered although police say the man’s injuries are “not consistent with a firearms discharge”.
A 27-year-old man has since been arrested on suspicion of possession of a firearm with intent to endanger life and assault.
He has been taken to a police station on Merseyside where he is currently being questioned by detectives.
The area was cordoned off for examination and house-to-house enquiries carried out.
The incident is being treated as a "targeted attack" against the man.
Highly-visibility uniformed patrols have been increased in the area to provide a reassuring presence for residents.
Witnesses should call police on 0151 777 2050 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
