SMOKE alarms alerted residents to a kitchen fire earlier this morning.
Crews from Birkenhead and Wallasey fire stations were called to Park Road North, Birkenhead, at around 1.30am.
Two firefighters wearing breathing apparatus entered the property and tackled the blaze with a hose. The fire was extinguished by around 2am.
Watch manager Simon Swann, who attended the incident with Green Watch from Birkenhead fire station, said: "Smoke alarms were present in the property, activated and alerted the occupiers.
"They exited the property and awaited our arrival. They did the right thing – if you discover a fire, get out, stay out and call 999.
"We also advise people have working smoke alarms on each level of their home. Smoke alarms can give vital early warning of a fire."
Firefighters carried out a home fire safety check.
