TRANMERE Rovers kick off their Sky Bet League 1 campaign against Walsall tomorrow.

Ronnie Moore heads to the Banks's Stadium with what he says is a stronger squad than last season.

Looking forward to the game, he said: "You want to get off to a good start, you don't want to be chasing things.

"The start last season was fantastic and if we can do that again it will be great for us. But it's not how you start, it's how you finish.

"I think everyone knows we're short in both full back areas, but going forward we look an exciting side.

"We've got a lot of attacking options this season and I can pick and mix the strikers.

"I'm hoping Foster will come in and do the job Ben Gibson did last season and Horwood has replaced Zoom and I think the crowd will take to him.

"I think James Rowe will be a top player who can go as far as he wants.

"So I think we're a touch stronger than we were last season though we're not quite up to speed with the numbers we've got in.

"We've got to dig deep and be the dirty dozen like we always have been."

Jason Koumas returned to Prenton on a one-year contract yesterday, adding that it was good to be back.

The midfielder has been training with Rovers for the past few weeks and was in action in a Rovers shirt for the first time in more than a decade last weekend at Wrexham.

He officially ended his two year absence from the game on Thursday when he signed a one year contract at Prenton Park.

He said: "One thing I always wanted to do was return here and play but I didn't want to do it at a stage where I was past it.

"I wanted to come back when I knew I could still do it and hopefully people will see over the coming weeks that it's still there.

"The first 12 months [out of the game] it was something I wanted to do. When I finished at Wigan I’d had enough.

"I was tired of it, I had a few injuries and I just wanted to get away from it and have some time out.

"It was longer than I planned but over the last 12 months I’ve been itching to get back.

"I've been watching football every week and I’ve missed it. I've missed the everyday routine and the banter with the lads, you can’t replace it.

"This has been on my mind for a while and Tranmere was, and is, the only place I would have come back to.

"I wouldn't have gone anywhere else. It’s not about the money, I’m here for one reason, to play for Tranmere again and to do a job for the Club. Hopefully the fans will enjoy what’s to come.

"There is a target and it's the same target as everyone else, you want to get out of this division.

"I'm not coming here to float about on the pitch, I don’t want them to see that. I want them to say ‘he can still do it’, because that’s what will happen."

Tranmere face Mansfield Town in a Capital One Cup first round tie at Prenton Park on Tuesday.

Their League One campaign continues on home turf against Crawley on Saturday, August 10.
