BUTTERWORTH John Vincent John Butterworth passed away on Sat Dec 30th 2023 at the age of 96 years. John was born in Hoylake and grew up living with his parents and sister in West Kirby. John joined the army in 1945 and did his national service as a sapper in the Royal Engineers, he spent a lot of his military service in Egypt driving his commanding officer to various parts of the country. John met his wife Jean in their teens and they married in June 1950. They had three children, Peter, Robert and Barbara. After leaving the army John did various jobs and eventually ended up working for Manweb where he reaced the level of foreman. He retired after 40 years working for them. At the time of his retirement John and Jean lived in West Kirby, and in 2001 they moved to Chelmsford, and lived there until they followed Barbara and her family to Canada, and permanently settled in Cochrane in 2010. When Jean became ill with Alzheimers they moved to Bethany Care in Cochrane. Jean sadly passed away in 2018 but John continued to live at Bethany where he became a much loved character for all who got to know him. John will be sadly missed by family, friends Bethany staff and residents. John is survived by his sister Joan Harris, son and daughter-in-law, Robert and Carol Butterworth, daughter and son-in-law Barbara and Peter Sykes, grandchildren, Helen, Elizabeth and Charlotte and great grandchildren, Lyra and Evan. He is predeceased by his wife Jean and son Peter and great-grandson Lucas.
