It's a great family car, but still manages to retain a degree of executive flair.
Yes, the Renault Laguna has had a facelift.
Offering four trim levels – Expression, Dynamique, TomTom Edition and the range-topping Initiale, the new 2010 Laguna features a new ‘GT’ sport look for the Hatch and Sport Tourer versions.
It has also taken a step forward in environmental performance, thanks to the quality of two key engines – the 1.5 dCi 110 eco² which has a combination of low emissions – 130g/km CO2/km – high fuel efficiency (57.6mpg on a combined cycle) and performance; and the new dCi 150 FAP eco².
The line-up of six engines – one petrol and five diesel – give a range of power from 110 to 180hp, all with six-speed manual or automatic transmissions as standard.
Without a doubt, styling is elegant, dynamic and streamlined and the interior is impressive too. The Sport Tourer has its own distinctive design, characterised by a sharply raked rear screen and a third side window, which neatly extends the profile of the side glazing.
Extensive measures to reduce noise interference from the engine, wind and road surface, ensure a peaceful cabin and steering is sharp and precise.
There has been further advances in safety with improved braking performance and ABS, ESP (Electronic Stability Programme) with ASR traction control, EBA (Electronic Brake Assistance) and Brake Assist standard on all versions.
There are six airbags, with a larger, double-chamber thorax-pelvis front side airbag, double pretensioners for the front seatbelts, ISOFIX child seat mounting points on the outer rear seats and a buckle-up reminder for all five seats.
The Laguna is well-equipped and provides a comfortable and smooth ride and is excellent for longer trips, particularly on motorways.
Climate control provides quicker and more efficient cooling and heating performance and an air quality sensor automatically comes on when high pollutant levels are detected.
