Hyundai’s i20 replaces its best selling model, the Getz.
And with demand for smaller, more frugal cars on the increase, this funky little supermini is likely to be a real winner.
The i20, which is longer, lower and wider than its predecessor, is great for darting around town and even performs well when the pace picks up on the motorway, but it’s the 1.4 CRDi model that comes up trumps in economy – delivering an impressive 64.2mpg while emitting just 116g/km of carbon dioxide. There’s the added benefit of paying just £35 per year for tax as well.
Steering feels sharp and the ride is comfortable, although there is some body lean in bends.
There are six colours to choose from and standard equipment in the Comfort model includes the all-important air-conditioning, steering wheel audio controls, trip computer, 15-inch alloy wheels, passenger glovebox cooling and aux-in with full USB and iPod compatibility.
There’s plenty of space in the front and the rear seats have a 60:40 split and fold function, but when folding, the headrests need to be removed and they don’t actually fold flat. The storage capacity is 295-litres.
The i20 received the maximum rating of five stars in the Euro NCAP tests and other safety measures (found in all models) include six airbags and active head restraints.
All Hyundais come with a five-year, unlimited-mileage warranty.
