A BAND fronted by a St Helens songstress has been selected to perform in Korea at a festival this month.

Scarlet have been chosen as one of nine UK artist and 53 international artists, to have the opportunity go to Korea and play at Zandari Festa for Sound City Korea this September.

The indie and alternative rock band has been abroad to perform before but frontwoman Jessie Robinson, 28, admits the prospect of playing in Korea is an exciting prospect for the group.

Scarlet kicked off the year by playing in front of 20,000 people at Tbisili Open Air festival in Georgia along side Steve Vai and released their debut crowd funded album ‘Effigy’ in Japan and the UK.

"I’m so excited but I’m terrified at the same time," said former De La Sale pupil Jessie.

"It has come about through the Sound City team - my friend Frank who runs a DIY artist development platform and company, he got behind us big time, he really believes in us, and he put us forward to Sound City, and somehow it all came together and were going.

"I’ve been working really hard this year and trying to get opportunities like this but we had such a great summer of shows last year, this year it was hard to match last year’s achievements

"But this has blown it all out the water."

Jessie, from Dentons Green, added: "We’ve been to Georgia before near Russia and played a 20,000 capacity open air festival there

"It was not as far away as Korea though, it takes between 12 and 18 hours to fly to Korea

"It’s a huge deal for us, a long way from St. Helens. It’s going to be amazing! I just hope that people see it and all we’ve done/worked on and that it amounts to something great and starts a snowball effect maybe."

Jessie added the opportunity means so much to help boost the band's profile.

:"We’ve had an album in Japan and went to play in Georgia but it’s hard to get many people in the U.K. to recognise the work and passion and latch on and support," added Jessie.

"When you’re DIY you come across some total gem human beings that really champion you.

Frank is definitely one of them."

Zandari Festa takes place over four days from September 26 to 29.
