GRASSROOTS FOOTBALL Wallasey Football League - Shore Villa win Dutchman Cup

The final of the Dutchman Cup saw Shore Villa take the trophy after a very hard-fought encounter versus the gallant New Brighton Town team who were playing in their first ever final, as the game went to a penalty shoot-out, with Villa keeping their nerves to win 3-2. This after Town had opened the scoring in the first half through Greg Williams, but Sonny Croft replied before the break. Williams then restored Town’s lead in the second half but a goalmouth scramble with ten minutes remaining saw Sam Range level the scores which took the final into the dreaded penalty syndrome. Both teams selected a player of the match from the opposition and saw Michael McCullough get Villa’s and Ellis Lamb got the award for Town.

Following on from their midweek encounter away to Ashville, where they could have easily won due to having the majority of possession and missing some golden chances, with Aiden Cooper and Nathan Johnston playing exceptionally well, but had to settle for a 0-0 draw with again having a stand-in keeper with Dom Hoppe only being troubled twice in the fixture that ended goalless.
