So sorry to hear of the passing of Ernie Ruffler. He was an inspiration to many young boys and indeed girls in Rock Ferry and a big part of the Jones and Rhone families in the early 70's. Jackie, Barbara Richard, Tracey, Dave and Colin. So many wonderful memories of camping trips, sponsored midnight walks, table tennis comps, football games and gymnastic competitions. Loved playing sardines, hide and seek in Rock Park and listening to ghost stories in the back room of the rickety old BB Hall. He gave our family all these fabulous memories. Rest in Peace lovely man.

Thanks Ernie. A proud Old Rockferrian and Cammell Lairds man.
So many young people of Rock Ferry owe so much to you. You always had time for them and always helped them if possible. You built and ran some very successful football, table tennis and gymnastics teams. From teaching them to kick a ball right through to helping them find their first job you were always there for them. You led by example and we all learned so much from you.
Hero is an overused word in modern times but you were a true hero to me and many other young people. God bless and thank you.
Tony Sullivan.

I have known Ernie since the 1960s when we both lived in Rock Ferry. More recently I would chat with him when we would collect our newspapers on a Saturday. A smashing bloke. It was a big shock to read he had passed away. Robert Robinson
