Well done to Globe for lifting lid on council

WELL done your reporters Geoff Barnes and Leigh Marles (Colas contract); Stephanie Cureton (Freebies); and Leigh Marles again (Marine lake) for telling us some real examples of our council's incompetence.

Whatever the shortcomings of the council's employees, we should be in no doubt that it is with the elected councillors that the responsibility lies. We put them in there in order, amongst other things, to monitor the work of council officers.

I guess that the mismanagement by Wirral Borough Council in many ways replicates that of central government: weak, unknowledgable MPs /local councillors fail to get to grips with the issues and rely too much on what they are told by senior civil servants /local government chief officers.

Consultants are turned to too readily; consultants do not make decisions; they provide a means for procrastination.

We have, or should have, managers skilled in their particular professions and they should be made to perform their duties without the crutch of consultants' reports.

Then, ministers / councillors should bring their commonsense and intelligence to bear on what they are told so that good, well thought out decisions may be made.

But therein lies the problem - bad senior officers.

Not just incompetant senior officers, equally useless elected councillors every last one of them full of deceit, misinformation, and total inability to perform their duties.

Remember not one single person or group of employees can carry out any of the failed and costly transactions without the blessing of the Cabinet, representing the total 66 elected councilors rubber stamping the procedures and agreements.

So remember that when you have a chance to vote, ask your local councilor who agreed to the pay offs and concealed information.

And they do that with your blessing.

The shambles of running Wirral Borough Council, continues with more secret meetings, more discreet lunch and early evening dinners at some of the most expensive returants and Hotels in Wirral, all at your expense of course.

Some preliminary haggling about size and method of payoff, whilst trying to keep buried skeletons in the dark.

The constant stench of Corruption emanating from Brighton Street is overpowering.

And what are the Watch Dog Councillors doing, lapping up the gravy, what else.

Some even sniffing anothers nether regions no doubt.

seems to me that if the council is intending to reduce its workforce then we should look at reducing the leadership, lets get rid of a third of Councillors, that will save a lot of money, why have 3 Councillors per ward where one per ward will do.
Will it happen here, don't think so !!!!
