Be on your guard with bus passes
12:18pm Tuesday 2nd October 2012 in Letters
GLOBE readers who are disabled or chronically ill should be on their guard when applying for or renewing their Merseytravel bus passes.
Applications must now be made under only one of several disability categories. In this way the apparent disability of people with several medical problems can be diluted and the pass refused.
If so, the applicant should immediately insist on a “reconsideration” and submit a comprehensive description of ALL medical conditions affecting mobility, obtained from their GP.
Travel pass applicants also should be careful and remember that, as Merseytravel say, you may be prosecuted for providing false information about your disability.
This despite the fact the DWP's own data shows that less than 0.5% of claims are fraudulent and contrary to the current propaganda about disabled 'benefit cheats'.
As we know from the past behaviour of Wirral Council, the disabled are considered easy targets by governments.

The whole public transport system locally is being reviewed with but one aim to reduce the travel permit scheme to about half of the present usage.
What more this is not comming from the Government, this is Merseyside Joint Councils all conspiring together to crack down on free travel, and this covers, Trains, Boats, Buses, and especially cross river traffic.
