A rough ride on Wirral road after makeover

I THINK your correspondent Audrey Moore has missed the point.

It's so easy to make a political point at the expense of actually answering a genuine question on a council policy that appears somewhat awry when compared with other areas.

In 2006, when the last skin-deep Hoylake refurbishment took place, we had a Labour government and a Labour-controlled council; in 2012 we have a Conservative/Lib Dem coalition and a Labour-controlled council (the previous Conservative lot were no better), yet the policy of delivering shoddy makeovers still remains.

When making a comparison to the Outer Hebrides, my point isn't about funding, it's about the quality of the finishing.

In the Hebrides, the edge of the road surface is a perfectly straight line, doing great credit to those tradesmen who carried out the work while the road surface in and around Hoylake looks as if it's been chucked on with a spade, exhibiting little or no regard to either the quality of the outcome nor it's cosmetic values.

As for lovely smooth tarmac surfaces Audrey, either you haven't been to Hoylake, or perhaps you should've gone to Specsavers.

Dave Noble, Hoylake.

Mr Noble, most of the roads around Wirral are the same. Church Road in Tranmere is being dug up yet again and there are countless holes and bumps in the roads everywhere.

Why don't the Highways Agency or whosoever are in charge of companies that dig up the roads inspect them afterwards to make sure the standard is there?

Saying that, Colas had the contract and look at the mess they have caused!
