I WOULD like to raise some points regarding the trees, plaque and Memorial Ground which Tranmere Rovers FC wish to sell to a developer.
Perhaps I can make the football supporters understand just why the suggestion to display the plaque on a new housing estate instead is unacceptable.
We are talking here of dead young soldiers – ex-Birkenhead Institute pupils - with living relatives.
So just try to imagine that your local team is not Tranmere but Liverpool FC.
There is, most-fittingly, a memorial to those who died in the Hillsborough Disaster at Anfield, their beloved club.
Imagine if a decision were made to remove this and re-site it on a housing estate.
You would feel sick and outraged - because this is how we who truly know the human cost of war actually feel about Tranmere Rovers’ proposal.
