Take care along 'dangerous' Wirral path

HIKERS and dog-walkers beware, the public footpath that starts at the side of the creche in Irby and opens out into fields down to Horrocks Wood is extremely dangerous where it has been fenced off.

Last week, while walking the dogs, my friend slipped on the uneven boulders, twisting his ankle and cutting his face on brambles.

If he had fallen the other way he would have lacerated his hands on a barbed-wire handrail.

Had we not managed to get him on his feet without calling an ambulance, and if we had taken mobile phone photos of the incident, or thought to take the name and address of the lady witness walking her dog at the time, a claim would have been made to the council.

This footpath is far too narrow and extremely uneven with challenging styles at both ends which are unsuitable for the majority of users.

Several requests have been made to the authorities to level the footpath and make the styles safe - but nothing has been done except for an e-mail promising a kissing gate to replace one of the styles in the spring.

For other footpaths in Wirral the instructions are to use gravel to fill any uneven areas. Why not the Irby footpath?

Mrs M Henson, Barnston.
