WHEN the Globe published an article entitled Road Rage - Name Your Horror Highway', it definitely reflected my serious concerns that Wirral Council were actually going round systematically destroying Wirral's road network.
The evidence appeared to be everywhere - the unnecessary bus lanes in Borough Road and Hamilton Square and the narrowing of so many main roads such as Argyle Street, Cleveland Street, Price Street, Singleton Avenue and the Marine Promenade, New Brighton.
Equally awkward and dangerous have been the modifications to many junctions and roundabouts such as Arrowe Park, Clatterbridge and St James', Birkenhead.
With these schemes and many others wasting taxpayers' money it was hardly surprising for me to learn that the motorist was going to have to pay more!
A few weeks ago, car parking charges in Wirral increased and recently the council has announced plans to replace the disc zone, where parking was free, with a Birkenhead Controlled Parking Zone in which parking will be extremely expensive.
I believe that the council's anti-motorist policies are not only inconveniencing many Wirral residents, they are now undermining commercial, retail and leisure activity throughout the Borough and threatening future jobs and prosperity.
It is time Wirral Borough Council were told to stop meddling!
