The 4x4's half-parked on the pavement in Hoylake

I'M DELIGHTED to see the apparent success of Hoylake School of Dance, which has recently relocated to the former Jon David store on Market Street, opposite the library.

Judging from the numbers of young people and adults flowing in and out, business is booming and more power to their elbow.

What I can't understand, however, is why so many parents insist on flouting the traffic regulations outside the school's main entrance on Elm Grove.

Often, from 4pm onwards, there is a constant stream of 4x4 vehicles half-parked on the pavement over single yellow lines, while others just sit in the road blocking off the flow (of a cul-de-sac) for everyone else. On top of that, for the residents, it's now a nightmare trying to park when returning home from work.

I note the school itself has its own car park, but driving that extra twenty metres seems beyond the majority of these drivers.

And, isn't dancing a form of exercise? Would it be too much to ask these parents to add a little bit of "walking" exercise for their children, too?

Elm Grove Resident, Name and address supplied.

You'll be lucky. The Philomenas and Thomasinas of the world can't possibly be expected to WALK anywhere, can they?

Anyone unfortunate enough to live near any school on Wirral knows how utterly selfish and lazy that a sadly high number of driving parents can be.

What will happen is this: The school will ask parents to please show the neighbours some more respect and also to obey the rules of the road. About five per cent of the parents in question will take note - for about two days - while everyone else will think that while the rules probably do apply to everyone else, they certainly don't apply to themselves.

And on it goes...

Residents: Dont just moan about it, do something. Inconsiderate car parking and other anti social behavior will only stop if the residents actually do something about it.

You can quite properly, Report it to the authorities, Photograph and Log the offending vehicals, time, date, and events for instance.
Send, Write, E-Mail, Phone your concerns to the Police, Fire Service, Ambulance Service, Street Scene, Council members and MPs as you think fit.
When they get enough of these type of complaints they will take action, even if regretfully, or so it seems at times.
Nevertheless, that is what they are paid for, and they are supposed to be working for you, so get your moneys worth.

I take your point, Hugo, but come on - at the risk of sounding like Cameron, it's not the state that needs to intervene on this, just the state of people's minds.

Kids are only lazy because their parents allow them to be so.

Many areas of Wirral can be accessed by trains, and most by buses.

But still the 4x4 brigade march on.

They have no shame, however: It'll be the nannies picking their kids up anyway.

Bollards! They really are the only answer to protect pedestrians, I spent half a day watching fools in 4X4s driving at speed into them from my window. Twas hours of fun.

4 x 4 drivers dont have to abide by everyone else's rules. Theyre allowed to drive using a phone, tailgate, drive in the middle lane of the motorway, not indicate and park in disabled bays without a blue badge.

The reasons why people pick on 4x4 drivers seem to me to be many and varied. Perhaps because they also would like a great big "get out of the way, here I come in my bully-boy/ girl vehicle" but cant afford to buy or run one; maybe they see so-called posh people as an easy target for casual contempt because theyre usually too busy counting their money/ debts to find the time to answer back. Having said that, many of these large vehicles are driven by people with such an awesomely impressive absence of road sense, and with so little idea of the true dimensions of the thing theyre driving that they shouldnt be allowed to take charge of a bubble car, let alone the likes of a Range Rover.
And no, I dont have one myself as it happens. A bubble car, that is.

They certainly don't buy t hem because they have a remote cottage in Wales or a Scottish croft. These behemoth Chelsea tractors seem to have disappeared when they could have justified their pathetic existence, earlier this year. They were nowhere to be seen when domiciliary care workers or meals need to be taken to housebound people. Some of there owners were seen, however, nicking grit from roadside bins for their own driveways!!
