We are friends, family and carers of Cole Street pupils and are writing to highlight the current issue regarding the proposed closure of Cole Street Primary School due to the primary places review in North Birkenhead.
The local authority is trying to cut costs by reducing the number of schools.
Cole Street is a school at the heart of the community, and which recently celebrated their 80th Birthday in July this year.
At a recent cabinet meeting held in October, it was proposed to close Cole Street and transfer our children to Cathcart Street. We are not in favour of this proposal, for a number reasons. Of course, we are in support of Cole Street and propose that a brand new school, merging, both Cole Street and Cathcart Street on a new site, is what all of the children of Birkenhead deserve.
Ultimately the local authority will not keep open two schools. It is our opinion that if government funding is available then a new school with state of the art facilities and equal opportunities is the way forward.
Friends of Cole Street, Birkenhead.
