Maggots in my Wirral wheelie

Despite disinfectant, bleach, pressure washing and bagging all waste our wheelie bin is overflowing with maggots.

The house is infested with bluebottles despite having the bin far away.

This is a terrible health hazard and disgusting.

Cannot the weekly bin emptying be resumed during the summer months?

We pay for a service from our council and are not receiving it.

I think it is disgusting. How come my bin never gets maggots? This is gross discrimination against me and my bin.

I bet those pesky maggots would come if I put loads of old food in my bin instead of my compost bin (no meats or bones though). It's just not fair I don't even get maggots in my compost bin.

I might just be able to attract some if I didn't wrap up my old chicken bones in plastic before putting them in the bin.

What do we want? Maggots now!

Hmm. Tis a bit odd.

My bin is rarely cleaned because frankly it just doesnt get dirty. Dusty maybe but since everything in it is bagged up - and just the usual twist and tie method with bog-standard bin bags - there is never anything else in it but dust and bags.

I've never had maggots either. S'not fair.

My royal bin (which of course I do not wheel) has NEVER been washed, has NEVER had a maggot, my servants put all none grey/brown bin waste in it, and little Prince Tut's nappies go in there, not one Maggot. I shall ask my Government to send me a maggot right now, how dare they...

My maggots are bio degradeable unlike all your plastic bags which will sit in their landfill resting places forever

We have just experienced maggots for the first time in our green wheelie bin despite double bagging meat etc which when you have 3 small children you do get alot of wasted food unfortunately, basically when you have to wait 2 weeks in this heat for your bin to get emptied is disgusting, many many bins are the same as i have seen just walking past some in street. plus the smell of wallasey last week after all the green bins were emptied was stomach churning..all those bins sitting brewing there maggots and stench in the heat for 2 whole weeks in the hot weather we have had. Something must be done, we do our part as in keeping the bins clean as we can and double bagging now surely the council needs to pull a finger out and get these bins emptied EVERY week in the summer months at least.

We had maggots crawling around the patio last night in the torrential rain.

The bin was emptied day before, and cleaned out.

Waste is double bagged anyway, but where did they come from if there was no waste, no residue left in bin?

The maggots were not even coming from the direction of the bin area. They were coming from all kinds of other directions, but gladly the rain we had must have drowned them.

Its an issue that needs addressing, many folk are suffering with this problem, even if King Tut, Spiffy and Mercury are not victims.

Come to think of it....

when I moved into my house there was torrential rain one night and then tons of maggots started dropping out of the top of the rotting back window frame rolling down glass outside. It was like something out of a horror film.

I think they will come from just about anywhere a fly has landed and laid eggs.

Unfortunately, that would appear to apply to peoples bins, even if not mine. Maybe the key is to keep the lid down ? Dunno..
