So much cash going to Birkenhead only

I write in response to “BP” and last week’s letter regarding the neglect of Egremont by the council.

I have, at successive meetings, asked if some of my fellow councillors are blind to the area around the Town Hall.

Egremont was once a thriving and prosperous community yet, while other parts of Wirral have survived, Egremont has been allowed to fall into the present sorry state.

Many people who live in Egremont do their best to maintain their neighbourhood but the support and back up of Wirral Council has been sadly lacking.

By 2011, Wirral Council will have received some £66m for regeneration projects. Of that, £63m will have been spent in Birkenhead.

The council’s actions, rather than their spin or logos, says it all.

If you want a fair crack of the whip in your locality, then only vote for an independant councillor, who re-acts to the wishes of those who elect him. Take Party Politics out of local councilors who only act according to the party political whip.
The whole of the Wirral only needs abou 20 elected councillors, at present we have 66, and that is way to expensive, hundreds of thousands of pounds expensive. Change the system

There are other factors, showing why Birkenhead might be gaining more regeneration funding than Wallasey, Egremont & Seacombe.

(One that the Councillor has not mentioned).

Birkenhead has suffered from long term massive job losses & resulting poverty/deprivation when shipbuilding work left.

U.K. Stats show that the Birkenhead area to be one of the most deprived in England.
While the Wallasey & attached wards, statistically, include areas of relative affluence such as Wallasey Village.

I am not denying that Egremont, Seacombe and areas of Liscard are deprived and nehlected, but having areas of wealth within a district works against obtaining the E.U. development aid that Birkenhead obtains.

Having Frank Field as a consistent advocate may also help!
