Cllr Storey shows little regard for others

In response to your piece, “Should Wirral give up and brand itself as Liverpool” in The Globe of December 3, I was appalled that a man who serves in high office in Liverpool City Council, and is also a head teacher, could have so little understanding of what a sense of belonging means to people.

Does Cllr Storey not realise that countless millions of people over the whole history of the human race have suffered and died in conflicts and wars, when those in power have forced peoples with different ethnic, cultural and religious backgrounds to live together in artificial states, always for political reasons?

I would assume that Cllr Storey is a Liverpool man to have this attitude, with so little regard for the people of Cheshire and Lancashire, who he expects to gladly give up their identities.

Personally, I feel very proud to have the great city of Liverpool on my doorstep, as I’m also proud to be associated with the city of Chester and proud to be associated with North Wales.

This is one great advantage of living on Wirral, but Merseyside as a county is a joke and a nonentity.

I bitterly resented the formation of this artificial political county which means nothing to anyone, and I would dearly love to be returned to the proud, ancient county of Cheshire, where I belong.

I’m sure there must be many thousands of older Wirral people who mourn their lack of identity in Merseyside, hate that artificial line across the peninsula, and still feel they belong in Cheshire. In my opinion Cllr Storey would be better suited to a job in marketing and advertising.

Tom Stapledon, Heswall.

"Cllr Storey shows little regard for others" - What do you expect, he's from Wirral.

He's also in charge of what is officially recognised as the worst-run Counil in Britain.

Most Liverpudlians can't wait for the auditors to have him and his cronies thrown in gaol.

I share the sentiments of Tom Stapledon, and rejoiced when Merseyside County Council was abolished and looked forward to a new future when wirral would no longer be burdened with the problems of Liverpool. Some progress has been made, but Wirral is still tarnished by the negative image of the Merseyside image. We now have CH postcodes; Royal Mail told us to remove "Merseyside" from our addresses, butI still receive mail addressed with Merseyside above my postcode! I welcomed the new street signs with the CH postcode displayed...until someone pointed out that these were copied from Liverpool in order to fool people that Wirral was somehow connected to the city. Thankfully the good old Church of England acknowledges our historical membership of the County Palatine of Chester, and we remain firmly in the Diocese of Chester.

The CH postcode simply means that your post is sorted in Chester, your address hasn't changed and the post Office said no such thing! Southport is in Merseyside and it has a Preston (PR) postcode.

Since having a CH postcode I have had far more of my post stolen than in all the years I had an 'L' postcode.

For its size Chester is more violent and drug-riddled than Liverpool.

"Screaming Unreasonable Man" is wrong about Wirral postal addresses. I suggest he visits the Royal Mail postcade/address finder website to confirm that "Merseyside" is no longer part of Wirral addresses. True, there are databases used by direct mail companies which include "Merseyside" as part of the address, not only for adddresses within the Metropolital Borough boundary but also for addresses in Burton, Ellesmere Port, Neston and Parkgate with postcodes CH64 to CH66!

The Liverpool brand???? oh my word have we really got to the stage where we now brand areas like as if we were marketing a tin of beans, it just goes to show what pompouse idiots we have running councils.Liverpool is world famouse as a city and quite right to because it has lots to be famouse for and not least it is a city, but the wirral although maybe not world famouse should be represented in its own right as to should cheshire etc as they have there own ancient individual identities which are far more important than mere marketing tricks or branding as this foulkes likes to call it.

Hm. If we are to be reclassed as 'Liverpool' then we will only need one council. What a brilliant way to entirely dismiss this corrupt money-grubbing self-serving council in one fell swoop. On that point alone then I would definitely be for it !

Also, Spiffy, if we become 'Liverpool' does that mean we'll get proper, regular, frequent bus services from early morning until after midnight like a proper town?

Will the bus lanes only exist in rush hours? It seems daft having 24-hour bus lanes in Wirral when the buses,(such as they are) only run for a few hours in the middle of day.

Hello there Screaming Unreasonable Man. I am not an afficionado of the workings of Liverpool City Council but I have absolutely no doubt that at least some things would improve. They could hardly get much worse could they !

It would be cool if some Liverpool dwellers could point out some positive differences between our councils in this comments section for us wouldnt it. I think its a valid point for debate.

Mr Foulkes informed us at the Floral Pavillion on Thursday that because of all the Children's Centres and the Floral Pavillion that 'Something has to give'. Well Mr Foulkes, Children's Centres are great if you have children aged 0-5 years of age! My children are 6 and 12, you are taking away their Pool, Library, Youth Clubs and Lollipop Lady! EVERY CHILD MATTERS Mr Foulkes - including those over 5 years of age.

Wow Sharon I am shocked that the man would stoop so low as to blame the youngest of our children for the councils lack of money. Something having to give has nothing whatsoever to do with councillors expense accounts and nothing whatsoever to do with the icelandic banks fiasco - to name but two gaping wounds in council finances. Oh Mr Foulkes hang your head in shame for your outrageous lies and blatant theft from our families.

In repsponce to the letter written in this weeks edition I would like to say , I am a regular dog walker along Moreton shore to Leasowe bay and I am continuelly appauled at the amount of dog mess left by behind by other people walking their dogs I would never dream of leaving my dogs mess behind. What bothers me is that all the people I see while out all appear to be respectable middle to old age people who you would think would be more responsible What I have to say to these people is "Come on have a concious you know who you are, stop giving all us dog walkers a bad name and clean up after your dog"
