EVELYN Campbell Smith says that she “stands by” what she said.
Let’s remember what she did say - that “cyclists should never ride side by side”.
Well The Highway Code says that cyclists CAN ride side by side.
She also says that it’s okay to “draw alongside cyclists” and “yell” at them, so closely that one of the cyclists was able to bang on her car roof!
Sorry Evelyn, but that is NOT okay.
You could have caused an accident, and it could be said that you were “driving without due care and attention”, both to the cyclists and the oncoming traffic, whilst you interrupted your overtaking manoeuvre to remonstrate with them.
This is a driving offence and an example of road rage, while the cyclists were not committing any offence.
You can stand by what you said Evelyn, that’s your right.
But I stand by this: A cyclist’s life is worth more than shaving a few minutes off any car journey.
