FURTHER to John Basindale's letter (Parking charge issue must be resolved, Mailbox, April 2), we hear all the time how the large supermarkets are killing off our town centres and to an extent they probably do.
However, I think Wirral Council and the town centre management should look at themselves and ask what do they do to encourage us to shop there.
I no longer shop in Liscard because it is too much messing around parking and making sure I have change. My wife, however, has always believed in supporting the local shops - until recently.
She called into Liscard to buy meat from the butchers in the market.
She was only gone 16 minutes and returned to find a parking ticket for being parked an inch over the white lines. The car park was not busy so she was not impeding anyone else. She approached the traffic warden, who showed little concern or respect and walked away. It cost us £40 plus the 60p to park - just to buy a pound of meat.
The supermarkets may be destroyng town centres, but at least they encourage their customers to shop with them and return.
We are sorry for all the traders in Liscard, but you have definitely lost our future business - we will do all of our shopping in Asda or Tesco . . . they treat us with respect.
