Support your local shops? Sorry, Liscard, but my business is going elsewhere . . .

FURTHER to John Basindale's letter (Parking charge issue must be resolved, Mailbox, April 2), we hear all the time how the large supermarkets are killing off our town centres and to an extent they probably do.

However, I think Wirral Council and the town centre management should look at themselves and ask what do they do to encourage us to shop there.

I no longer shop in Liscard because it is too much messing around parking and making sure I have change. My wife, however, has always believed in supporting the local shops - until recently.

She called into Liscard to buy meat from the butchers in the market.

She was only gone 16 minutes and returned to find a parking ticket for being parked an inch over the white lines. The car park was not busy so she was not impeding anyone else. She approached the traffic warden, who showed little concern or respect and walked away. It cost us £40 plus the 60p to park - just to buy a pound of meat.

The supermarkets may be destroyng town centres, but at least they encourage their customers to shop with them and return.

We are sorry for all the traders in Liscard, but you have definitely lost our future business - we will do all of our shopping in Asda or Tesco . . . they treat us with respect.

In a way I sympathise and the fine is excessive but surely everyone knows now that you have to get things just right or these legalised robbers will get you. Every week on local radio or in the papers someone is complaining about a ticket for some trivial matter yet people such as your wife don't learn.

Don't park over the line or even on it. If as you say there was plenty of space about then she should have lined the car up properly.

Disabled people display your badges the right way.

Other drivers ensure your ticket the correct way up and can be read properly.

Don't give these parasites an excuse and if possible put them out of work.
