LIVERPOOL has three parks: Sefton Park covering 235 acres, Stanley Park of 111 acres, and Newsham Park with 121 acres.
Surprisingly, Wirral Council does not boast of the area of Birkenhead Park despite its history, but I understand it to be 226 acres.
The Green Belt farmland that the council wishes to see destroyed in Hoylake in favour of a golf resort comprising 250-bedroom hotel, shops, conference centre, beauty salon, fitness suite, restaurants and bars with parking space for say, 300 vehicles, has an area greater than that of Sefton Park and more than that of Stanley Park and Newsham Park combined.
If it wasn't farmland, there would be public outcry.
But it is farmland, so there is none despite our need for increased food security.
However, when all of the brownfield sites have been built upon, where will those residents seek their recreation, fresh-air, enjoyment and appreciation of country life?
Not on Hoylake’s Green Belt if it is a private golf resort!
