TO all those complaining about the change of bins, are you really saying you would rather not decrease the amount of waste going to landfill?

Rather than looking at the introduced changes as some kind of money making exercise, could you not take a moment to think about how great it would be for our children if we were able to show that we have changed our behaviour to reflect what is now known about the environment?

Changing peoples' behaviour is hard, but not impossible, as we have seen from the huge reported decrease in plastic bag use since we had to pay for them.

Reducing the size of our bins and giving us an additional bin for food waste is far more likely to change our behaviour than signs or leaflets encouraging us to do so.

Yes, it may be frustrating in the short term and take a while to get used to, but soon we won’t even remember how things were before.

If only Wirral Council had drawn on behavioural science to communicate the changes and framed them as positive, they might have been met with far less resistance.
