THE recent story about a maggot infestation at the health clinic came as no surprise to me.

All summer-long we have been plagued by bluebottles getting into the house after being attracted by the wheelie bins outside.

On several occasions we have found maggot infestations in our bins although we try to dispose of our waste as hygienically as we can – we don’t throw food into the wheelie, for instance.

I was therefore very unhappy to read that the council is now on the road to collecting and emptying the green wheelies only once every three weeks.

This is ridiculous. I thought there was supposed to be a move to get back to weekly collections at one point?

What on earth do we pay them for in ever-increasing council tax if they can’t even empty the bins?
