THE government has instructed local councils that they expect them to build 200,000 new homes.

Here in Wirral, 3,500 homes are to be built by our borough council.

This will inevitably mean the use of green belt land.

While I welcome new homes being built, I am concerned that none of these new homes will be for social housing.

In Hoylake, they plan to build a new golf resort led by the Jack Nicklaus Consortium.

The site chosen is 285 acres of farmland between Hoylake West Kirby and Newton – green belt land.

Before the golf resort can be built, 165 houses will need to be constructed in order to fund this venture.

Should the venture fail then the green belt has gone forever.

3,500 houses can then be built on these fields.

I believe the council have hedged their bets.

If the resort fails, they will build a whole new town equivalent to the size of Hoylake as it is today.

If you want to save our green belt then speak out now, voice your disapproval to your councillor or to your MP before its too late.
