Note: Wallasey MP Angela Eagle announced her withdrawal from the Labour leadership contest as Globe went to press this week

WALLASEY MP Angela Eagle is challenging Jeremy Corbyn for leadership of the Labour party.

Angela Eagle does not even have the support of her own Wallasey constituency, who support the incumbent leader.

No surprise really, when you remember that Jeremy Corbyn has the overwhelming support of the membership of the party, having received 59.5 per cent of votes cast in last year’s contest.

The three other candidates mustered just 40.5 per cent of the vote between them!

So why is there a challenge to Corbyn at this time?

The answer is that the Labour party establishment, of which Angela Eagle is a member, has decided that members cannot have a leader of their own choosing, rather they will be presented with a list of "approved candidates" acceptable to them.

Truly undemocratic and contrary to what the Labour party stands for.

The membership of the party has swelled under Corbyn’s leadership and it will resist the undemocratic tendency within Labour and elect again Jeremy Corbyn to lead.
