CONCERNED parents in Wirral are right to vent their fury at the council following a recent "risk assessment" that will now see as many as 40 schools lose their treasured lollipop men and women.

Although the council have assured the public that no one is losing their job, frankly I do not believe them.

Yes, lollipop men and women at these 40 schools will be relocated in the short term but how long until council bosses decide that too many are covering the remaining schools and force through redundancies.

This is another example of council penny-pinching but this time it is school children who will inevitably bear the brunt.

Perhaps instead of putting the lives of children at risk as they walk to school, Wirral Council could look at docking the pay of the chief executive, currently standing at a whopping £171,700 instead.
