WAS it really good news for Labour that a recent speech by Jeremy Corbyn, according to council leader Phil Davies, was "inspirational", giving "a fantastic boost to our election campaign"?

Cllr Davies continues by wholeheartedly blaming the Tories for the mess that Wirral finds itself in.

I have been a socialist all my life and my view is that the Labour Party has carried out the Tories' dirty work for them by massive cuts to services, continued privatisations and hitting the most vulnerable people in the borough.

Does he really think that local people who are threatened by the closure of Girtrell Court and the 400-plus retirees who have had their long service awards snatched back will still be itching to vote for Labour?

Is this a question of living in cloud cuckoo land, Mr Davies?

The Labour Party should let the Tories do their own dirty work and campaign in the borough for change as an opposition party, rather than continue with their callous cuts game.

They may then earn the respect of the public.
