FURTHER to the article What Birkenhead shoppers want: free parking, cheap public transport and great service on the Globe website on April 18, I want to reassure shoppers and residents alike that providing affordable public transport and good customer services are priorities for us and our partners and there are many offers and schemes that people can benefit from.

For example, Birkenhead and the city region are served by a good rail network and, as industry surveys show, Mersey rail fares continue to be the most cost-effective in the country and passengers are the most satisfied in the UK with the price they pay for a ticket.

We continue to work hard with partners to keep rises to a minimum, so that our railway is affordable to as many people as possible.

In addition, there are many offers on the bus network that customers can take advantage of including weekly and monthly passes.

By working with operators we have achieved a lot, including the best ticketing offer for young people outside of London – the £2 MyTicket.

The new bus alliance will also help deliver future benefits to customers.

We are committed to developing innovative, inclusive, contemporary and affordable travel initiatives that significantly improve the customer experience and will continue to work with partners to deliver more for the city region.
