I WOULD like to respond to the recent article regarding the council revoking their Passport for Life gifts to long-serving employees upon their retirement.

The following is a copy of a letter I have sent to the local authority: "Wow – what an insult – 34 years teaching full-time in Wirral and my former employer retracts my retirement gift.

"I chose the Passport For Life in preference to cash or high street vouchers and have thoroughly enjoyed using it over the last eight years.

"I think this must be a unique decision taken by any employer.

"You describe it as a budget- saving measure. How can that be when there is not many changing hands anyway?

"On reading your letter, my first reaction was anger.

"I still feel very angry.

"I am also sad and feel insulted by this decision.

"I was very proud to go to the town hall on the occasion of my retirement for a lovely presentation to mark my long service to the council.

"Somehow, I now feel rather cheated."

I sent this in an email on March 30 and I'm wondering if I'll get a reply.

I used my Passport For Life mainly on the municipal golf courses and always took other people with me who had to pay, which actually generated money.

My family and friends are astounded my retirement gift has been removed, some wondering at the legality of it.

So as one of the 411 retired staff now without their Passport For Life, I remain angry, sad and insulted.
