I VISITED the Walker Art Gallery today and very much enjoyed the many exhibits and works of art.
However, I did leave with a sense of unease about the way one of the exhibits is being used to educate children.
I refer to Transformation one man's cross-dressing wardrobe.
This exhibit featured the dresses Peter Farrer has worn throughout his years as a cross-dresser.
Now let’s get this in a right perspective.
I am 60 years old, an absolute child of the ‘60’s and have seen and done it all. So I am not offended in the least by transsexual, bisexual or any other lifestyle choice that people are making.
What did leave a sour feeling in my spirit was that children of a primary age were being taken to this exhibition, looking at it and examining it, and then being asked by their teacher to write their thoughts on a ‘post it’ note and then having these put up on a board so as to be part of the exhibition.
Why should children, barely out of pre-school be forced to consider why a man wants to dress up in women’s clothes?
