THE most recent edition of Forward (the official guide dogs magazine) included a petition calling on the government to bring an end to guide dog owners being refused access.

Regrettably the example given there was of all places a major supermarket! How was that particular owner supposed to eat?

It seems that shop owners are not aware of the Equality Act of 2010 and do not ensure that all their staff know it either.

Well done the members of the public who intervened and enabled the dog and owner in the Globe article to go into Costcutter.

In a civilised country to refuse access to any disabled person is a disgrace. We also have to ask ourselves why as many as 49% of guide dog owners have been refused entry. Is it some twisted view of health and safety rules, religious prejudice?
