TAKING into account the parlous state of the Euro and the possible collapse of the EU, taking the UK with it if we stay, I definitely do not agree with former MEP Chris Davies that we should stay in the EU (Globe Mailbox, March 2).
In 1970, we joined the Common Market through a referendum, but John Major signed the 1992 Maastricht Treaty and Gordon Brown signed the 2007 Lisbon Treaty without a referendum, which was wrong – so now the UK has an opportunity to correct the situation.
Everyone I have spoken to wants to regain our sovereignty, control our borders, improve our economy by exporting more worldwide, cut red tape and have our own UK laws once again to be paramount.
If we are out of the EU, our members of Parliament will be able to do a full week’s work, making decisions on our behalf, instead of having most important decisions made in Brussels.
There is also £50billion to be saved from our contribution to the EU, which will greatly assist our economy at this difficult time.
The British people deserve and must be given the true facts and figures about the pros and cons of being in or out of the EU.
It is imperative voters should check that they are registered to vote on this once-in-a-lifetime matter.
