MY husband and I frequent the Dee Hotel, in West Kirby, and really enjoy it.

We eat and drink in there several times a week.

It has really good atmosphere and we also take our grandchildren, as it is a family-friendly establishment.

Recently, we heard it was due to be refurbished, which we thought would be brilliant, as it is rather dark inside and badly needs to be updated.

We also welcomed the news of it returning to a hotel, as West Kirby does not have one, and with the Golf Open etc, I think it would be ideal, however, last Friday came the news that the pub was up for sale.

What are Wetherspoon’s thinking of? Why close a good pub that is thriving?

It always has a good atmosphere and staff are really friendly etc. It just doesn’t make sense. People of all ages go in there. Older and retired people during the day and a much younger clientele in the evening, especially at weekends.

It is also a good meeting place, close to the station, and has its fair share of regulars, who go in there for the company and a quiet drink.

I just hope whoever buys it opens it up again as a pub so that the people is a West Kirby can enjoy its facilities, otherwise they will be forced to go to the local wine bars or, worse still, sit at home on their own.

A good pub lost. Please, Wetherspoon, rethink your decision.
