I THINK it is disgusting that the number of fines given to parents for taking their children on holiday during term time has almost trebled in two years.

It is so expensive to take your family away when schools break up, I don’t blame them for trying to save some money.

Spending time together with your children is precious.

Some working parents can’t take time off in school holidays.

We can't all afford to pay the exorbitant prices companies charge for summer holidays in July and August.

The difference between the cost of going away in June and August often runs into thousands of pounds.

I fully understand you don’t want children missing important lessons but most parents are sensible and only take them away near the end of terms.

Head teachers used to have discretion to grant leave in exceptional circumstances, but these new rules mean a holiday doesn’t come under this.

The £60 fine is doubled if you don’t pay within 21 days.

It’s a heck of a lot of money.

I think it is time to review this archaic policy.
