I READ with dismay but alas without surprise the article in your Wednesday, September 9, edition headlined entitled Campaign to scrap tolls for ambulances.

I have read the article and I am fuming at the actions of Merseytravel who in my opinion are nothing short of a disgrace for a number of reasons.

  • People are in an ambulance for a reason; it may not be an emergency but they are obviously unwell.
  • They are charging and making money from the public purse – money that could be spent elsewhere.
  • The NHS is not exactly awash with funds. There should be no need for an arrangement, all NHS staff carry identification badges as they are working with the public.
  • As I understand it, the tunnels make a few million pounds profit, so it is not as though the money made through levying tolls on ambulances are required.

It is no surprise to me that the the company cannot see the error of their ways; one can only teach someone if the are open to such teaching in the first place.

Unfortunately, they appear too arrogant for that.
