REGARDING your recent online story about Wirral's public sector pooling their budgets.

Is this a last ditch attempt to throw up even more smoke and mirrors to obscure the rapid decline of our local authority, and the insidious transfer of responsibility, and accountability from Wirral Council to others?

No one would argue against the best use of diminishing financial resources.

However, if it is a "Wirral Partnership" developing a total Wirral public sector investment of £2 billion by 2020, Cllr Davies states that Wirral Council’s investment at that time will be £200 million.

That makes Wirral Council – the democratically elected representatives of the Wirral public – a 10 per cent partner in this delusional partnership.

Do we see Liverpool City Region Combined Authority, and its elected mayor, gathering on the horizon?

I stand to be corrected, especially by Cllr Davies.
