I HAVE grave doubts a replacement municipal golf course will ever be built at Hoylake once the council hand over the present one to Jack Nicklaus (Globe website).
We're always reading about how little money the council has these days, so how on earth will it justify building a new golf course when there are already plenty of them in Wirral as it is?
I suspect that when the time comes, the promises of a new public course will be shelved because "current economic conditions" have changed or some such excuse.
We have seen these promises before in Hoylake, they wanted to bulldoze the Parade school and promised a new community centre would be built to replace it.
But no one ever believed them then, and if it hadn’t been for a massive campaign, the land at Hoyle Road would now be a housing development.
I hope I'm wrong, but the omens are not good.
