I WAS very interested to read the article regarding our UKIP MEP Paul Nuttall's views on smoking in pubs.
He says that as long as pubs provide a well-ventilated room people should be able to smoke in it.
Unfortunately smoke has a habit of going where it wants to.
The days of smoky, smelly pubs should be left in the past.
My favourite Wirral pub – the Irby Mill – was out of bounds to me when smoking was allowed. Now we enjoy it.
Mr Nuttall should be aware of the damage smoking does to health. Does he realise the implications of the further costs to the NHS of making it easier to smoke?
Smoking combined with drinking alcohol also leads to a greater risk of throat cancer.
I realise that his party leader is rarely seen without a cigarette or pint of beer in his hand, which seems a very poor image to foster.
Lack of respect for his own health makes you wonder about his approach to measures which may affect decisions regarding the health of the nation.
John Ellis, Pensby.
