LIKE me, many of you will have been saddened at the closure of Hoylake Lifeboat Museum.

Clearly mistakes have been made but tribute should be paid to the volunteers who have put so much of their time and energy into the project.

They deserve thanks and commiserations in their disappointment.

I just wish they had asked for help as I think many would have rallied to what remains a very good cause.

The Victorian boathouse remains an iconic building on Hoylake promenade and still houses the last Hilbre Island lifeboat Chapman.

Just to remind everyone – if indeed a reminder is needed – Chapman is unique.

The oldest surviving Liverpool-class lifeboat, she is now 114 years old and of national importance.

Her loss to Hoylake and our community would be tragic and I want to try to keep her here.

It is a privilege to own this beautiful lifeboat and I want to pass her on to future generations.

I am optimistic that a future can be secured for the museum and would welcome expressions of interest and support.

Please do not feel despondent about the project.

John Parr, Hoylake Lifeboat Museum founder.
