WHEN I read the letter regarding the proposals to hold dog DNA records, I immediately thought of the disgusting state of the pavements in Claughton Village and Park Station which are covered in chewing gum!

It’s a horrible sight as is all of the litter strewn about.

I am old enough to remember a time when shop owners and indeed householders took pride in their "threshold" and kept the area surrounding their property as clean as the interior.

Where has the pride gone to say nothing of the consideration of others?

We live in an age where we leave it to the council to clean up our mess.

With regard to pets, they are animals after all and their owners (of both dogs and cats), should act responsibly in cleaning up after them.

I have thought about sitting and waiting to "catch" the perpetrator but that person knows who they are and if they read this – shame on you.

There is a litter bin directly opposite, why do people not mind carrying cans and plastic bottles when they’re full but then discard them anywhere when they are empty?
